Could this be a credible version of the talk between AD Curley and Joe?
IMHO the conversation went like this
AD) We’ve heard Mike’s suspicions of inappropriate behavior but he didn’t say he saw anything very specific. He was calm and collected. He thought something maybe sexual was happening but he just glanced a couple of times and all he could see was JS back.
JOE ) That’s pretty much what he told me but he was quite upset when we talked
AD) I think I should speak to JS and to Dr. Raykovitz over at the charity to see if there is more to this than what Mike can tell us from what little he saw.
JOE) You know I’ve known JS for 30 years and I never suspected anything like this. I always thought he was a very caring guy about kids – in fact so caring that his work as a coach suffered from it.
AD) I’ve always thought the same. PSU has done much to help the 2M program and JS has a great reputation. Heck his autobiography just came out last month. And Mike’s suspicions are so vague and based on such a short observation. I think he must be mistaken. How could 3 slapping sounds be "sexual".
JOE) Mike said he feared it could be a sexual nature to it but I just can’t see the JS I’ve known for 30 years doing anything like that. Maybe the guy at The Second Mile knows something we don’t. I would hate to drag JS through the mud if this is just a misunderstanding. Why don’t you talk to Dr. Raykovitz and see what he knows.
AD) So Mike wasn’t any more specific with you than he seems to have been with us? JOE) No but he was very upset. I will leave it to you and Dr. Spanier to decide what needs to be done but from my longtime working relationship with JS I’m having difficulty thinking that he is some kind of pervert. You guys do whatever you think is the right thing to do
AD) Right now I’m thinking we can have this kind of thing happening at Lasch. It is inappropriate even if it’s just a shower with a kid that JS is being a foster father or surrogate father to. I wanted to get your opinion if you had ever suspected anything bad was happening with JS. You’ve known him and worked with him for so long.
JOE) Well sharing a shower after a workout is something I’ve seen done most of my life in sports but I agree if it leads to this kind of thing with Mike it needs to stop.
AD) What’s your take on Mike? Do you think he would tell us if he saw more than he is saying?
JOE) Well I don’t know him that well but he’s a very good assistant coach and I would never tell him to be quiet about something like that.
AD) So there is no reason he wouldn’t tell us everything?
Joe) No none I can think of
AD) VP Schultz mentioned another incident in the showers back in 98. Did anyone tell you about that?
Joe) I think I heard a rumor about a 2M mother that got upset about a shower but it was cleared up. I never got a report or anything. What happened with that?
AD) It seems there was a complaint but the investigation cleared JS of anything criminal.
Joe) As far as I know there is no reason to suspect JS of being what he has always appeared to be – a very caring guy who is really devoted to helping kids.
AD) Well I will look into it with Dr. Raykovitz. The Second Mile is where these kids come from and the 2M would be in the best position to know if anything like what Mike suspects has ever cropped up before. Raykovitz works closely with JS and he and his staff have the training required to find out if there is something wrong going on. I will let you know what we decide to do but since you don’t suspect him of anything after 30 years of coaching with him that’s a good thing. I would hate to think the guy is a pedophile.
And then the conversation between Tim Curley and Dr. Jack Raykovitz
After Tim spoke at length with JoePa to get his valuable perspective from 30 years of working with JS. He wanted to know if Joe had ever seen anything that would lead him to think JS was capable of being a pedophile in all those years.
Next Tim spoke with Dr. Jack Raykovitz – a Doctor of Psychology with a staff of child experts at the Second Mile. Dr Jack had been working with JS very closely for years at the charity and had a staff that was in contact with the kids and parents of The Second Mile. Tim would want to know what Jack as head of 2M and maybe more importantly as a Dr of Psychology thought about JS behavior and his susceptibility for being a pedophile.
I believe Dr. Raykovitz would take this very seriously and his evaluation would likely be the most important in their thinking That’s why I find it very odd that we have not seen the Raykovitz Grand Jury Testimony The prosecution went out of their way to read in the testimony of Joe, Tim Gary and Mike’s father along with the PSU police chief and a couple of other witnesses but they did not read in the testimony of Dr. Dranov or Dr Raykovitz. I believe that means that whatever Dr. Raykovitz had to say must have been detrimental to the prosecution and favorable to Tim and Gary.
Raykovitz must have assured Tim that he would keep an eye on JS He would make certain that JS knew he was no longer to bring boys to PSU and would be observed closely to insure his behavior was exemplary Raykovitz would have asked key staff members to see if any of the boys that JS paid special attention to were exhibiting signs of abuse and I think he would have requested that PSU allow him and his organization to handle the situation. That they were equipped to do it and in a position to do it.
And Finally the MESSAGE delivered to Jerry Sandusky
So I think the message to JS was – What you are doing may not be criminal or wrong but we cannot have it and it has now resulted in two reports that put you at risk. If you are interested in the continued success of your charity you will stop this because it could and will have a detrimental effect. PSU can no longer tolerate this behavior on our campus so you are no longer allowed to bring the 2M kids here. We don’t believe that you are an abuser or molester as was found in the 98 incident.
We don’t have enough clear information to conclude you were doing anything but as you have said "horsing around". But we cannot afford even the appearance of impropriety and we encourage you to do what Dr Raykovitz says and talk to a professional about your behavior so you can understand how damaging it could be to you and The Second Mile. We do not know if you are somehow sexually attracted to young boys and there is not enough evidence here to prove that you are or are not. So be warned that your behavior has brought suspicion on you and you need to stop doing anything like that. DO YOU UNDERSTAND
Then JS would go into profuse apologies insisting that it was just innocent horseplay with a 2M boy for whom he was a surrogate father and he would have the boy talk with Dr. Raykovitz at 2m to make sure it was clear that nothing bad had happened. As far as we know for certain there was not another event until 2006 so maybe it worked. Victim 5 said something happened in Aug of 2001 but that is unclear as to date. The jury acquitted JS on the indecent assault count with victim 5. I really want to know what Raykovitz has to say and his silence is deafening.
